Did you know the tramezzino is an Italian invention? It was born in 1926 from the imagination of Angela Demichelis Nebiolo at the Caffè Mulassano in Turin. And its name is Italian as well: the poet and writer Gabriele D’Annunzio baptized it about ten years later, because these two spongy slices of bread reminded him of a tramezzo, the non-bearing partition wall that divides two areas in a building.
